Canadian Crop Conditions
Manitoba
Manitoba’s crop report from Wednesday stated that the East, Northwest, and Interlake regions of the province have seen less than 50% of the normal precipitation amount so far this year. Much of the central and Southwest regions have accumulated less than 70%, while a few locations have reported more than 80% of the 30-year average since May 1.
Across the province, spring wheat quality is mostly rated as good, with 10% of the crop rated as fair.
Saskatchewan
Thursday’s report from Saskatchewan showed some deterioration in cereal/grain crop condition ratings. As of July 14 in their 4th update on crop conditions with the percentage rated as good/excellent, the conditions are as follows:
- Spring wheat: 63% (down 3% from last week and 13% from last year)
- Durum wheat: 45% (down 2% from last week and 14% from last year)
- Oats: 65% (down 7% from last week and 10% from last year)
- Barley: 58% (down 6% from last week and 16% from last year)
- Canola: 60% (on par with last week, down 8% from last year)
- Peas: 73% (up 4% from last week and on par with this time last year)
Last week’s percentages reflect the last bi-weekly report and last year’s percentages are compared to the week of July 22, 2024.
Alberta
The report from Alberta on Friday showed that crop conditions have been holding steady as of July 15, with 66% of the crop reported at good/excellent conditions (up 1% from last week, down 9% from last year, and up 5% from the 5-year average). Current crop conditions are:
- Spring wheat: 67% (up 1% from last week, down 6% from last year)
- Barley: 67% (on par with last week, down 6% last year)
- Canola: 64% (on par with last week, down 8% from last year)
- Peas: 65% (up 3% from last week, down 15% from last year)
- Oats: 63% (on par with last week, down 7% from last year)
