Get Rewarded for Growing Wheat Sustainably
In 2023, P&H alongside Griffith Food, the Ontario Soil & Crop Improvement Association (OSCIA) and Sustainable Food Lab, launched a new incentive-based pilot program designed to promote land stewardship and increase the adoption of regenerative agriculture practices that enhance farmers’ resilience and productivity.
Following its successful launch, the program has continued to grow, with ongoing commitments to support farmer enrollment. By expanding this initiative, we aim to empower more farmers with the tools and support they need to build sustainable, productive farms that are prepared to meet the challenges of the future.
What’s in it for the Grower?
Participating growers who adopt new practices in no-till winter wheat are eligible for the following incentives.
- Financial incentives based on the type, frequency and acreage of regenerative agriculture practices.
- Agronomic assistance and tools to support the successful implementation of the practice.
- Access to peer-to-peer learning opportunities and field demonstration day.
- An environmental assessment to demonstrate impact.
- Join the supply chain conversation – Meet your customer and taste the snacks made from your wheat.
Getting Started with Regenerative Winter Wheat
Participation requirements are simple for growers who sign up for the program.
- Enrollment starts in November. Reach out to your local P&H Representative indicating your interest in the program. They will guide you through the enrollment process.
- Participate in the Regenerative Winter Wheat workshop. Attend the workshop featuring talks from agronomists, industry experts, and peer farmers.
- Implement the new practice(s) in a winter wheat crop in the upcoming season.
- Attend a field demonstration day hosted by OSCIA. Visit a local farm where these practices are in action, network with fellow farmers, and learn from industry experts.
- Share basic current and historical crop management data with P&H. P&H staff will guide participants through data collection and analysis needed to assess their environmental performance. Growers can compare regional benchmarks and learn more about their environmental field practices.
- Facilitate a virtual or on-site field visit to verify the completed regenerative agriculture practices.
Space in the Regenerative Winter Wheat Program is limited, and enrollment periods may close once capacity is reached. For information on upcoming program intakes, please contact your local P&H representative.
